What conscious sedation involves
Conscious sedation uses carefully titrated medication to lower anxiety while keeping you responsive. Oral sedation is taken as a tablet before your appointment and produces a pleasant, drowsy calm; intravenous sedation is delivered through a fine cannula in the back of the hand and works within minutes, allowing us to adjust the depth precisely.
Local anaesthetic is still used so the area is completely numb. Sedation deals with the fear and awareness; the anaesthetic deals with sensation.
