Understanding dental phobia
Phobia is not the same as mild nerves. It can cause weeks of dread before an appointment, sleepless nights, cancelled bookings and years of avoidance — which in turn leads to guilt and embarrassment about the state of your teeth, making it even harder to walk through the door.
Fear usually traces back to something specific: a painful childhood experience, an unsympathetic clinician, the sound of the drill, needles, gagging, or simply the feeling of having no control while lying back. Once we know which of these applies to you, we can plan around it.
