Sinus Lift in Staplehurst, Kent

When upper back teeth have been missing for a while, the sinus above them tends to expand downwards and the bone thins. A sinus lift rebuilds that height so implants can be placed securely — making implant treatment possible for patients in Staplehurst, Kent who have been told there is not enough bone.

  • Makes upper jaw implants possible again
  • Creates solid bone height for long-term stability
  • Planned precisely from a 3D CT scan
  • Carried out under local anaesthetic, with sedation if preferred
  • Often combined with implant placement in one visit
  • Avoids the need for a removable denture

What a sinus lift is

The maxillary sinuses are air spaces that sit directly above the upper molars and premolars. A sinus lift gently raises the membrane lining the floor of the sinus and places bone graft material into the space created. Over several months this integrates into your own bone, giving the height an implant needs.

Where only a small increase is needed, we can often lift the sinus floor through the implant channel itself — a minimally invasive internal technique. Larger deficits require a lateral approach through a small window in the side of the jaw.

Who needs one

A sinus lift is considered when upper back teeth have been missing for years, after gum disease has caused bone loss, following a difficult extraction, or when a scan shows naturally large sinuses. It is not needed for lower jaw implants. Your CT scan will show exactly how much bone you have, and we will always tell you if implants are achievable without grafting.

Recovery and aftercare

Expect some swelling and mild bruising for a few days, managed easily with prescribed painkillers. You will be asked not to blow your nose forcefully, sneeze with a closed mouth, use straws, fly or dive for a couple of weeks so the graft is not disturbed. Soft foods for the first few days and careful cleaning around the site help healing. We review you within a week, and again as the graft matures.
