What a sinus lift is
The maxillary sinuses are air spaces that sit directly above the upper molars and premolars. A sinus lift gently raises the membrane lining the floor of the sinus and places bone graft material into the space created. Over several months this integrates into your own bone, giving the height an implant needs.
Where only a small increase is needed, we can often lift the sinus floor through the implant channel itself — a minimally invasive internal technique. Larger deficits require a lateral approach through a small window in the side of the jaw.
